All of Hamilton Ndlovu’s luxurious cars sold at an auction

The auction of luxury cars previously owned by controversial businessman Hamilton Ndlovu has exceeded expectations, according to Graham Van Niekerk of Park Village Auctions. The auction, held on Wednesday, 28 August, saw the sale of Ndlovu’s multimillion-Rand car collection for just over R7 million, which is about R3 million less than the cars’ original purchase price of approximately R10 million in 2020.

Key Auction Details:

  • Auction Type: Virtual, attracting buyers from across South Africa, including KZN, Free State, Eastern Cape, and Gauteng.
  • Cars Sold:
    • 2019 Lamborghini Urus: Sold for just over R3 million.
    • 2019 Porsche Panamera GTS, 2020 Porsche Cayenne S, and 2019 Porsche 911 Carrera: Each sold for just over R1 million.

Auction Procedures:

Van Niekerk explained that a deposit fee was required to prevent buyers from defaulting on their purchases. He noted that while the cars are still under the curator’s control and subject to confirmation, once administrative procedures are complete, buyers can collect their vehicles.

Background on Hamilton Ndlovu:

Ndlovu gained notoriety in 2020 when he posted a video flaunting his collection of luxury cars bought in a single transaction. Following an investigation by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), it was revealed that companies linked to Ndlovu had secured tenders worth R172 million from the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS), allegedly through the abuse of emergency procurement procedures. As a result, his cars were seized in 2021 by court order, along with other assets, including his Bryanston property and bank accounts.

Additional Asset Seizures:

  • Ndlovu’s Bryanston house was auctioned for R7.1 million in 2023 as part of efforts to recover losses suffered by the NHLS and the public.

The sale of Ndlovu’s cars and other assets marks a significant step in holding individuals accountable for misusing public funds during emergency procurement processes.
