Former Midvaal Municipality Mayor, Bongani Baloyi, has announced his decision to join the MK Party, following the deregistration of his Xiluva party. Baloyi made the announcement in Soweto after Xiluva’s disappointing performance in the May elections.
Baloyi’s political journey has seen him move from the Democratic Alliance (DA) to ActionSA before founding Xiluva. Now, he follows other prominent politicians like EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu and SARA’s Colleen Makhubele in joining the MK Party, South Africa’s third-largest party.
Meanwhile, the African Transformation Movement (ATM) is calling for the Constitutional Court to determine the legality of uMkhonto weSizwe Party member John Hlophe’s potential seat on the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). The ATM has positioned itself as a neutral party in the case, which is being heard in the Western Cape High Court, as part of an ongoing legal battle.
