Gogo Skhotheni and Estranged Husband Monde Shange Mourn Tragic Loss of Son Monde Jr

In a heartbreaking development, DJ and sangoma Tumi Motsoeneng, popularly known as Gogo Skhotheni, and her estranged husband, Monde Shange, are mourning the tragic loss of their three-year-old son, Monde Jr. According to ZiMoja, Monde Jr passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024, at 15:00 at Busamed Modderfontein Private Hospital.

In a deeply emotional statement, Gogo Skhotheni confirmed the devastating news: “It is with profound sadness that the Motsoeneng and Shange families confirm the passing of Monde Jr Shange. Monde Jr departed this life at 15:00 on Monday, September 2nd, 2024.” She went on to request privacy for both families as they navigate this painful time, asking for compassion from the public.

The loss of Monde Jr is particularly tragic, as he had faced numerous health challenges throughout his young life. Gogo Skhotheni had previously spoken about her son’s struggles, recounting his many battles, which began even before his birth. Monde Jr was born prematurely at seven months, and shortly after, he was rushed to the ICU with breathing difficulties. He faced further medical complications, including being born without the tube necessary for transporting food to his stomach, and underwent several surgeries over the years. For much of his life, he depended on machines for nourishment.

Gogo Skhotheni had always shown immense strength and love in caring for her son, often expressing her pain and frustration at his suffering. On his second birthday, she posted a message reflecting on his time in and out of hospitals: “Monde Jr, you’ve been at that hospital bed ever since. You know all the nurses, doctors, and cleaners; we are now planning your second birthday. Are you still there?”

Despite these immense challenges, Gogo Skhotheni remained resilient, even as her relationship with Monde Shange experienced turmoil, including allegations of abuse and periods of separation. Still, her faith and determination remained unshaken. “A lot has happened. My son has been sick for a long time, but I have given my life to God and will still heal,” she said.

As the Motsoeneng and Shange families come to terms with their devastating loss, they have asked for privacy and support from the public during this time of overwhelming grief.
