Sonia Booth Opens Up About Emotional Toll of Divorce from Matthew Booth

Businesswoman and former TV personality Sonia Booth has revealed the emotional and physical strain her divorce from former soccer star Matthew Booth has taken on her. The couple’s highly publicized split culminated in a finalized divorce just two months ago, following Sonia’s revelation of Matthew’s infidelity on social media in 2022.

In a recent interview with Radio 2000, Sonia shared details of her grueling year-and-a-half-long legal battle. “It was a year and five months of legal battles, heavily contested and nasty. It drained me emotionally, physically, and financially,” she told TshisaLIVE. Despite the immense pressure, she refused to settle for unfavorable terms that could have impacted her future.

Sonia admitted that the toll of the divorce was so severe that she would not have made it without the unwavering support of her close friends and family. “It’s been quite a rollercoaster ride. I’m grateful for the support system I have, because had it not been for that, I wouldn’t be sitting here today,” she said, adding that the experience pushed her to the brink of her mental and emotional limits.

Reflecting on her resilience, Sonia compared the ordeal to her previous near-death experience in the ICU, stating that her divorce was even more challenging. “If I ever needed to know what hell looks or feels like, I’ve been there and come out of it. What you see now is a phoenix,” she said. Sonia emphasized that the hardships she faced have only made her stronger, vowing to continue rebuilding her life.

Throughout the difficult process, her sons and family provided her with unwavering love and strength. Sonia expressed deep gratitude for her children, who supported her without judgment. “My boys have been an incredible source of strength. They remind me daily of what an incredible mother I am. That keeps me alive,” she shared, highlighting the importance of her family as she moves forward with her life.

Now focused on personal growth, Sonia believes the challenges she faced were meant to test and fortify her. “Everything happens for a reason, and it was all to strengthen me and test my faith,” she concluded.
