“Police in Durban Central have arrested a 40-year-old man for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following an incident in which a 29-year-old man was allegedly assaulted and stabbed by a suspect known to him on 31 August 2024,” Netshiunda stated. The victim sustained facial injuries and was taken to the hospital for medical attention. Mhlongo is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court.

Allegations of Violence

The victim, who identified himself as Mhlongo’s boyfriend, claimed that the assault occurred after the two had returned from an entertainment venue in Morningside, Durban. He alleged that they were in a romantic relationship from 2020 to 2021, broke up, and rekindled their romance earlier this year.

The altercation reportedly began when a friend blew kisses at the victim during their goodbyes, sparking jealousy from Mhlongo. An argument ensued inside Mhlongo’s car, where the presenter accused the victim of infidelity and demanded he call the friend to prove they were not romantically involved.

“I refused, and he started to attack me with an alcohol bottle on my face. Then, he punched me until a VW Polo passing by stopped, and the occupants intervened,” the victim said. He recorded a video as evidence, showing him bleeding from the face while Mhlongo, seated in the car, asked him to get inside. The victim refused, feeling unsafe, and later went to the hospital and filed an assault case.
